Food fit for the future
Food. It’s a basic necessity for life. It's a livelihood. It expresses our cultures and beliefs, brings us joy and memories. But it is also in many ways our future downfall – a source of inequality, disease, and destruction. Gloomy, we know, but there is hope…
Food for 1.5 degrees (and less)
With the food system responsible for over a quarter of all global greenhouse gas emissions, changing our diets is one of the simplest ways to significantly reduce emissions. Research has shown that to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees, each meal needs to have a carbon footprint of around 0.5kg CO2e or less. Our commitment is to make all Huel meals less than this.
Sustainable ingredients
It’s not just about carbon. We must reduce all the environmental impacts of Huel products. To measure the impact of our ingredients we use the world’s largest product sustainability database, HowGood to determine six metrics: agricultural greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, processing GHGs, blue water usage, labour risk, biodiversity, and land use. These metrics guide all of our sourcing.
Suppliers with shared values
It’s all well and good having sustainability standards and upholding them, but we also want to work with suppliers that share and uphold those values too. We assess the ethical performance of our suppliers using several different tools to identify the likely level of risk for both modern slavery and other human rights issues. We’re members of the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex). We require all new suppliers to sign the Huel Supplier Code of Conduct and hold an internationally recognised, independently verified ethical certification.
